Profile
We’re David & Whitney…
Not only have we been married for 25 years… we have worked together for over 15 AND have renovated EIGHT homes and short-term rentals… and are still together and smiling! Most of our clients find this far more impressive than our photography. We kind of do too.
I (Whitney) started the photography business part-time back in 2005 after leaving a career in counseling. My first “official” photo shoot was when I used a wrinkled sheet as a backdrop to photograph our daughter, Emma for her first birthday. To say the photos were amateur would be an understatement. I may or may not have even done some black and white images with selective color (horrors!). But friends were kind and allowed me to practice on them and the business grew into a full-time job. In 2007 we had our second child, Ben, who became another adorable practice subject.
David left his long-time job in youth ministry to join me in the business full time in 2009. We learned (understatement of the century) that entrepreneurship is challenging. And that working together is flat out hard. And did I mention that we also decided to start homeschooling our kids during this time? We were ridiculously optimistic. We were incredibly poor; but we were together, and we were doing what we loved.
Now the kids are teenagers, and our photography skills have much improved. Entrepreneurship is always challenging, but so rewarding as well. Not only have we built a business we are proud of, but have also had the opportunity to educate other professional photographers at the international level. We are not only continuing to photograph families and seniors through Whitney Scott Photography, but are also enjoying working with non-profits on partnerships and building our second studio, Vignettes (serving children with monthly custom-crafted limited edition sets).
We love what we do. Capturing your real smiles and laughter and snuggles… making teenagers look cool being themselves and seeing the faces of tween girls when they see themselves through our lens and feel pretty… hanging artwork of your family on the walls of your home, knowing it helps your kids feel secure and makes you smile every time you look at it. It’s an honor and a delight, and we are so very thankful.
